About Us

Henry Ling Limited has a rich history, starting life 140 years ago as a commercial printer in Dorchester. Today this historic building with many original features houses the offices for administration and the data manipulation production facility. A modern factory on the edge of town houses the rest of the production facility.

We are a private company, family owned and well known for high quality products and excellent personal service. We currently employ 107 people and have a policy of continual investment. We pride ourselves at being at the forefront of technology, an illustration of this is our JDF enabled production workflow.

We have recently invested over £1m on a new enlarged digital print area. A significant level of investment is made each year. Please see our plant list for all the details.

Our products fall into two main categories, journals and books. On the journal side we work for the leading commercial publishers such as Elsevier Limited, Taylor & Francis Informa and Wiley-Blackwell. We also work for learned societies such as the Royal Society of Medicine, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Royal Society of Chemistry. In addition, we value just as highly the work from many smaller publishers and institutions.

In the book market we have valuable contracts with Pearson Education and other educational publishers. Our ability to process postscript and PDF to bound product quickly and efficiently is key for this work. Our expertise in high quality reproduction, particularly halftones, is essential to retaining work from the British Academy, various archaeological trusts and numerous art galleries.
