Bindery

This final department in the production process is well equipped to deliver an excellent product. It offers perfect or slotted binding, thread sealing and saddle stitching. We have a case bindery on a seperate site. See www.skylinebookbinders.co.uk.

Perfect Binding

This Kolbus Ratiobinder has a 20 station gatherer plus a book block feeder and hand feed station. This enables large extents to be bound efficiently at speeds up to 6000 copies an hour.

The gatherer is computerised with signature recognition and a scanning head to guard against human input error. It also has the ability to be in operation on one job while the next one is set up on the stations remaining. This maximises efficiency for lower extent journal work. On line is a Kolbus three knife trimmer and stacker delivering stacks for checking as part of our quality control procedures.

Saddle Stitching

The Muller Prima Plus stitch trim line has a six station gatherer plus a cover feeder and on-line three knife trimmer to produce finished product for despatch.

Thread Sealing

Thread sealing is a high quality alternative to cased binding and perfect binding. It combines the major benefits of both: the quality of sewing and the lower costs of adhesive binding.

Folding

There are five Stahl K78/82 folders for the B1 sheet size and a MB52 for smaller sheets these in combination with a Stahl 115 guillotine feed the busy binding lines.

Despatch

Books and journals can be mailed directly from Henry Ling (see below), alternatively they are packed loose on pallets for onward handling at a distribution centre or boxed on pallets for warehouse storage. Our vehicles make smaller deliveries and two local contractors we know and trust are used for bulk transport.

Mailing & Fulfilment

We are able to enclose products in polywrap with a carrier sheet and additional inserts and then mail. This saves valuable time to market. We can sort the address data our customers provide and maintain sortation to the required level eg mailsort. In addition to our mailing service we have a fulfilment operation where we store printed product and pick, pack and despatch as orders are placed electronically on web based systems.
